If you were to research any common engine issues with BMW and MINI you will probably discover the N47/N57 timing chain concerns.  This is an incredible engine, delivering impressive performance and fuel economy.  The timing chain issues have been the biggest problem with this engine.  If the chain fails it allows the piston to contact the valves and that usually causes the camshaft carrier to break and damage the camshaft.  We have seen some failures cause damage to the engine block as well, obviously an extremely costly repair.  We do offer a timing chain replacement package as a preventative measure.  This is something we would recommend, especially if the vehicle is approaching the 100,000 mile mark.  These start at £980+VAT.  This includes:
